
The purpose of the piece is to show the progression of controller design throughout the last quarter-century. With the introduction of the Nintendo Entertainment System, no more number pads were used on game controllers from that point on. Nintendo also began and cemented the Shoulder Buttons into the design of controllers, as well as reinstating the Control Stick ten years after it had last been seen on the Atari 5200.
